Trees

Below are the trees that we have stocked for the year. We strongly suggest using this list as we have hand picked these plants for their ability to grow well in our climate, their low maintenance, and overall quality and positive feedback from past customers. We also purchase these trees wholesale, and pass along the cost savings to you. Specially ordered trees raise our costs substantially and our landscaping plans will be adjusted accordingly.

Trees are measured by their trunk diameter, or caliper, 6 inches off of the ground. I have also included a rough estimate of their current height.

The bigger the tree, the harder it is to transplant, so we typically don't carry trees over 2" caliper.

Once the trees are planted, they are your responsibility. Please water them every day or two to start, then every few days, then weekly until they are established (at least 6 months, a year would be better). Especially in the summer. (Bushes too!)

We will try to keep this list updated according to our current availability.

Overstory / Large trees

(Street and Yard)

These are the large trees that will one day provide shade for your yard. They are often required to be planted as street trees, and some cities/neighborhoods specify certain varieties. We typically reserve the larger caliper trees to be used for street trees as we have limited stock and cities require certain caliper, but they can be occasionally planted as a yard tree.

Maple, Red

Maples are the most requested of the larger trees. They are also fast growing, and are one of our toughest varieties with hard enough wood that they hold up to our strong Kansas City winds. They are known for their fiery orange to red fall color, and are simply a great all-around tree.

Sycamore, London Plane

Sycamores are the fastest growing shade tree we stock, at about 2' per year. They also grow the largest, topping out at around 80' tall and 50' wide (although it takes quite a few years for them to grow to this size). They have beautiful patchy bark that can be spotted from far away.

Oak

Oaks are reliably our second most requested tree. They are the slowest growing of the overstory trees we have, at about 12 inches per year. Most oaks have red or orange fall color and tend to hold onto their leaves through the winter.

Ornamental / Flowering

(Yard and Landscape Beds Only, not suitable for street trees)

These trees are all smaller, slower growing. They are very pretty in the spring, and have some great fall colors.

Crabapple, Pink Flowering

Profuse magenta pink flowers in the spring leave behind dark reddish green leaves in the summer which fade to reddish orange in the fall. These trees produce small red berries that birds love to eat during the winter. Crabs are one of the toughest and most disease-free trees that we plant.

Crabapple, White Flowering

Pink buds open to white flowers in the spring. Summer leaves are deep green, and turn yellow in the fall. These trees produce small red berries that birds love to eat during the winter. Crabs are one of the toughest and most disease-free trees that we plant
